about

Object Impermanence is a creative side-step into one of my favorite genres, ambient.

My love for ambient music started in 2016 when I was studying for the CPA exam. I put on Brian Eno's "The Ship" on repeat and studied all day. I still listen to ambient music during work, since it really just creates an ambiance, but isn't distracting or overly engaging.

Each of the fifteen songs was mostly conceptualized in the first production session of each, developing one texture or loop until it is a wall of slowly evolving sound. The composition and production feel akin to painting, rather than constructing a rigid structure. It's been a breath of fresh air, just like my 2018 piano album Recomposure was before it. If you are new to ambient, I hope this album can be a stepping stone for you into the genre.

The title is a play on the concept of object permanence, which is the idea that things don't just disappear when they can no longer be perceived. While that's true for physical objects, life often times doesn't feel that way. Emotions, lifestyles, friendships, careers, and musical tastes are always changing, and sometimes they never quite return to what they were. That's the way life works.

Anyways, thanks for listening and supporting my music.
