Drop Anchor 04:29
This ain't the time to lose my mind Sober decisions are needed A mental break, resuscitate The pressure has long been exceeded I'm in too deep, been losing sleep I show all the signs of obsession I'm sure I'm right, I locked it tight But somewhere along the way I lost them Will the payoff in the end be greater than the spend of energy Is this a bold ideal or is this closer to insanity Drop anchor in the sand, and slip under the waves of bitterness Waiting for the calm and trusting in the process Try and maintain a steady gain A tempo that pushes me forward Look for the shapes, ways to relate Parse out the chaos from order I'm still alive, prob'ly been revived I won't take another breath for granted No choice to make, too much at stake I won't leave the helm uncommanded Will the payoff in the end be greater than the spend of energy Is this a bold ideal or is this closer to insanity Drop anchor in the sand, and slip under the waves of bitterness Waiting for the calm and trusting in the process

Latent 03:17
Born with a bang, a flash of light Standing on two feet, learning wrong from right Doing things first, not yet asking why Mapping out the world, filling in the space Striking up a balance between give and take No reasons yet to fear making a mistake Opening a closed file Poke around and stay a while Break it into parts And catalogue what’s in the heart A latent state of agency And worn-down naivety Try to piece it back together But this time make it better Bathing in the night, pulling down the moon Linger by the cars and singing our tunes Nothing behind us, nothing yet to lose I’ll find a new thread in the shape of a cloud Scared I’ve seen too much, I’m tightening the value I’m pumping out the water, but I might just drown Opening a closed file Poke around and stay a while Break it into parts And catalogue what’s in the heart A latent state of agency And worn-down naivety If I piece it back together Will this time be better

Silhouettes 04:43
We've treaded here before, but never found a way through Some might say we're long past the point of no return Don't have the numbers, and one still wonders How much do we have left to burn The only way out now is to outsmart the enemy We're all playing by the rules of modern engagement There's blood on the line, but we're holding this time The other end of this arrangement Day will break, and clouds will form The rain may fall, the ground stays firm Hiding from silhouettes Some future world's regret Night will fall, and life will sleep The nightmares come, the heart still beats If you feel me slip away, shake me awake Some might choose to stay, and some would rather leave This moment may have two vastly different outcomes It quickly coalesced, the hum of unrest The world has come undone I’ve been waiting for the train to leave the station I'll take the next one and see you on the other side Before we came to the message came through Some things should be left to die Day will break, and clouds will form The rain may fall, the ground stays firm Hiding from silhouettes Some future world's regret Night will fall, and life will sleep The nightmares come, the heart still beats If you feel me slip away, shake me awake It’s easy to, it’s easy to get lost, get lost in this world But as long as you, as long as you are here by my side, we can conquer it It’s easy to, it’s easy to get lost, get lost in this world But as long as you, as longa s you are here by my side, we can conquer it

Wheels Up 03:49
Hey, where are you headed Can I hitch a ride Wait, let me get this I’m on your side Please tell me your weakness I’ll watch over it for you There’s no need to check in later I know you have things to attend to A familiar scene, a hit and run Count another one It doesn’t use its given name Changes where it comes from It bites at the corners of The people and the self you love By the time you know and call it in It’s already wheels up Started out with something pure But it slowly degraded to the state it’s in now Look at me getting myself down You'd think I’d have learned by now A familiar scene, a hit and run Count another one It doesn’t use its given name Changes where it comes from It bites at the corners of The people and the self I love By the time you know and call it in It’s already wheels up I can’t get myself up from the chair The fabric’s faded and the cushion’s bare The place called home is somewhere else It left behind its hollow shell I know my mind plays tricks on me Slowly learning about entropy Bring me back to the ground And hope I come around It’s a familiar scene

Second Act 05:08
Try to keep the area clear But the wind keeps blowing in Only have finite supply Then the despondency sets in Where does it evolve from here Are we on a wide correction course Maybe I could shape the tree But first I need to identify the source A rugged individualist working for the end of the day Holding out for what he's worth while the world whittles away Can you make the color green out of only red and blue Get we get a recipe out of these values I know I'm gonna figure it out, I don't need a way to get back All I need to do is reroute, move into the second act Charter what you want to achieve, and don't forget the lesson learned When to feel it start to slip, better stay firm It’s been since I just drove And now I'm looking for a different thing My sympathies don't lie here anymore And I don't even feel the sting Used to be scared I’d lose the feel But that since has gone away But I hardly noticed I don't know how long it's been that way A rugged individualist working for the end of the day Holding out for what he's worth while the world whittles away Can you make the color green out of only red and blue Get we get a recipe out of these values I know I'm gonna figure it out, I don't need a way to get back All I need to do is reroute, move into the second act Charter what you want to achieve, and don't forget the lesson learned When to feel it start to slip, better stay firm Keep it in your pocket Always by your side Keep it in that pocket Don’t let it out of your sight Sure, there’s other chances But do you trust the dice Keep it in your pocket Always by your side Keep it in your pocket Don’t let it out of your sight Sure, there’s other chances But do you trust the dice A rugged individualist working for the end of the day Holding out for what he's worth while the world whittles away Can you make the color green out of only red and blue Get we get a recipe out of these values I know I'm gonna figure it out I don’t need a way to get back All I need to do is reroute

Fallout 03:13
One thing leads to another Creating what comes after The cause and effect of the moment Haven’t yet been deciphered Memorizing positions Look there go traditions Minute by minute it changes Can't settle on one definition Put all the cards on the damn table Take it and run as soon as you’re able Look around, nobody knows about The coming fallout Come celebrate the downfall Blow it up no matter how small A little too late for the backsees We've already ruled it a fair ball Put all the cards on the damn table Take it and run as soon as you’re able Look around, nobody knows about The coming fallout

Light and sound come gently in Sunday morning now begins Bookmark dreams on the pillow ‘til tomorrow Footsteps creaking down the stairs Coffee wafting in the air Leave a cup on the nightstand, make it seem unplanned Drifting in and out ‘til she comes around And says, “Hey you, what time is it?” There’s no hurry to get out of bed It might be the middle of the afternoon There’s no meaning in the word ‘soon’ today Many more will come to pass And they will go by just as fast

about

Written, produced, and performed by yours truly.

The album title, and a lot of the lyricism, drew from the experiences, emotions, and thought patterns I've had over the last year and a half. I have lots of anxieties about the world but I'm grateful for the love and support of my friends and family.

Musically, the biggest inspiration for this album has been my Weber upright piano, which we bought second-hand shortly after moving to CT. It has a practice pedal, which plops a nice thick felt right down between the keys and the hammers. I'll sit down and doodle on it daily. In the end, I ended up recording it for every song on the album except the two instrumental songs, ironically enough. The last song on the album is a solo piano/vocal piece.

I hope you enjoy Scenes from a Window.
